A team of researchers at Centre for Development Studies is undertaking a research on comparative assessment of development among Indian states by constructing a holistic index of development. The study conceptualises development as consisting of many dimensions, not only material prosperity. A workshop was conducted on March 11, 2017 at Hotel Asoka, New Delhi to discuss the conceptualization, indictors and methodology of the study. A number of eminent researchers from various research institutes in India, representatives of various state governments, union territories and indeed from the central government participated in the consultation. Based on the comments received in the methodology of computing a composite index of development of states, the CDS team is currently in the process of revising its original methodology.
