Panel discussion on the Indian Economy in the context of the Economic Survey 2018 and the Union Budget: 6th February 2018.
This was intended towards a critical reflection on the findings of the Economic Survey and its due derivatives on the Union Budget. This was also a forum for CDS faculty members to share their views in the context of Economic Survey 2017-18 and the Union Budget 2018.
The panel comprised of Prof Manmohan Agarwal who spoke about ‘State of the Economy’, followed by Dr M Parameswaram on ‘Slowdown in investment.’ Dr Hrushikesh Mallick shared his thoughts on ‘Government Finance and Macro Economy and GST’. A detailed presentation on ‘ Industry’ was given by Prof KJ Joseph. Some of the other areas of discussion were on ‘Ease of doing business,’ by Dr Ritika Jain and the ‘External Sector’ by Dr.Sunandan Ghosh. This was followed by Prof. Udaya S Mishra’s observations on ‘Social infrastructure and Human Development’ and Dr Chinnappan Gasper’s presentation on ‘Education’. Prof S. Irudaya Rajan spoke on ‘Gender and son preference,’ followed by a fairly extensive presentation on ‘Science and Technology,’ by Prof. Sunil Mani. Dr Seenath gave her views on ‘Agriculture.’
