A seminar titled “Full Employment: A Mirage in Kerala” was delivered by Dr Grace Sunny, Professor of Economics, Collin College-Texas, USA, at the Joan Robinson Hall, CDS on Friday, 16 August, 2019.
Abstract: This study is based on the premise that persistent unemployment in Kerala occurs due to a set of determinants that reflect the nature of: population growth, economic growth, socio-economic policies, apprenticeship/in-service training opportunities, attitude towards productive employment openings, preference for location/organization-specific jobs, alternative employment creation capability of the private sector, the ranking of the State in the ease of doing business; and the veiled accelerated flight towards replacement of human capital by the advent of latest technological leap wrapped in faster robots, virtual reality, machine learning and artificial intelligence in the emerging structure of production process.
