The CDS is deeply saddened by the passing away of Professor N Krishnaji, who was one of the distinguished members of the faculty.  He served the Centre during 1972 through 1979. He was 83 years old at the time of passing away. His works mainly deal with Indian Economic problems with an emphasis on agrarian and demographic structures and questions relating to food security. An excellent statistician, he was very well known for his careful use of statistics to explain economic issues.

He has held positions at the Institute of Economic Growth, Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta. He has also been a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies, Hyderabad

He kept working and publishing till the very end. One of his most recent papers is  “Dynamics of land inequality: polarization or pauperization” which was published in the Indian Journal of Human Development (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0973703018788742). The enormous amount of data work in the paper bears testimony to his rigour.

We at the Centre remember him with much gratitude for his enormous service to our academic community.
